The Ohio Historical Society offers searchable databases of interest to genealogists including the Ohio Death Index, Newspaper Index, Civil War Documents and Ohio Fundamental Documents including the Executive Journal of the Northwest Territory.

Ohio Memory Project
An Online Scrapbook of Ohio History. The Ohio Memory online scrapbook will bring together historical materials from archives, museums, libraries, and historical societies around the state to create a large collection of primary source material. Acting as a single point of access to historical materials of multiple types from a variety of institutions, the site will highlight connections between collections, providing more comprehensive coverage of the state's history than any single institution could. The scrapbook will identify hidden treasures that are currently inaccessible, raise awareness of state and local history, encourage teaching and study of Ohio history using primary sources, and promote academic scholarship and publishing. Long after the celebrations in 2003, the scrapbook will remain as a lasting legacy of Ohio's bicentennial.

Digital Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps have been licensed for use by Ohio citizens by the Ohio Public Library Information Network. These Sanborn Maps were digitized from microfilm copies by Chadwyck-Healey, a Bell & Howell Information and Learning company. This company owns the copyright to these digital files. The Library of Congress produced the descriptive data for each map.

Compiled by Bennie J. McRae, Jr., with the assistance of numerous researchers, historians, genealogists, descendants of soldiers/veterans, and National Cemetery Superintendents.

Veterans History Project
The Veterans History Project relies on volunteers to collect and preserve stories of wartime service. It's primary focus is on first-hand accounts of U.S. Veterans from the following 20th Century wars:

  • World War I (1914-1920)
  • World War II (1939-1946)
  • Korean War (1950-1955)
  • Vietnam War (1961-1975)
  • Persian Gulf War (1990-1995)
  • Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present)

In addition, those U.S. citizen civilians who were actively involved in supporting war efforts (such as war industry workers, USO workers, flight instructors, medical volunteers, etc.) are also invited to share their valuable stories.
